A modern day Chest of Drawers will quite likely be made of something like Chipboard or MDF. Chipboard or particle board (called by different names in different countries), is made up of tiny chips of wood all glued together and pressed by machine into flat boards, usually 12mm or 18mm thick. These wood chips come from unused or unusable sized pieces of wood at the timber mill and also from recycling old wooden furniture. These boards can be veneered and are used in flat pack furniture, where the purchaser buys the furniture and has to assemble it by their self. Even buying ready made furniture from a store, there is a possibility that it has been delivered to the shop as flatpack and has been assembled by the staff.
Plastic chest of drawers are a must need for the houses, since it has the potential to store lots of stuff and also it gives a really fine look to the room. Chest Drawers also helps in giving an organized look to the rooms. Generally these are used in bedrooms to store the daily use stuff. one has to make sure that you buy the one which completely satisfies the requirement.
In the kitchen, dining room and living room most drawers that are in use are from a sideboard or dresser however with such a huge choice of chests drawers now available there are many that are suitable for these rooms. A chest could be used to store place mats, cutlery, instruction manuals or recipe books. Contemporary designers are now building modern and often quite funky chest suitable for any room of the house. Some of the designs seen include stacking the drawers at an odd angle and incorporating bright colours so that the chest becomes a stand out piece of furniture. Even with the various quirks each chest remains a functional piece of home furniture.
You can tell a lot about the personality & character of the owners of a house by the furniture pieces they choose. When it comes to living room accents, for example, there are pieces that radiate glamour that speak volumes about the taste and interests of the occupants of the house. Take for instance a chest of drawers with convex bow front design and stylized tassel-motif hardware with tapered legs. The person who purchased such a living room accent can surely appreciate beauty and style. On the other hand, individuals who are passionate about art and have eclectic tastes may opt for a maple highboy reminiscent of the Chippendale era or a Greek revival style of chest. A bow front chest of drawers in lustrous mahogany that captures the grandeur of the 18th century master craftsmen is a perfect option for a woman with an eye for superb detailing. Itll also add a look of timeless elegance to a contemporary living room. With a low rectangular coffee table and pediment mirror of similar material in the same room, the look can be fabulous.
Matching European style living room furniture pieces like a mirror with a pretty carving of a basket of flowers and a three-drawer serpentine chest can look great in a country-inspired home or Venetian-inspired residence.
Many people believe that when it comes to quality you cant beat an Antique Chest of Drawers. These will usually be hand made, using traditional woodworking joints such as dovetails and using a good quality wood. These woods are very expensive these days, or in some cases are a protected species and banned from being imported.
